Workshops and modules

The Writing Centre offers several workshops and modules. Some of these modules are offered throughout the term; watch your inbox to learn where and when these are offered. Other modules can be requested for a class or a group of interested students; send us an email make a request.

English language modules:

"Focus on the Subject"
This50 minute module helps student refine the focus of their writing through learning to easily identify and properly place the subjects of sentences.
"Parallel Structure"
This 50 minute module helps students organize their ideas in essays and presentations through applying the principles of parallel structure in lists, outlines, and tables of contents. Students learn how correcting a common grammatical error is essential to fundamental critical thinking processes.
"Minding your Modifiers"
In this 50 minute module, students learn how one of the most common grammatical errors leads to unfocused and confusing writing.
"Proper Research Practices"
In this 50 minute module, students learn why and how to carry out responsible research. The tools that they acquire will help them avoid the pitfalls that often lead to plagiarism.
"The English Essay Analytical Paragraph"
This 50 minute module outlines the components of an analytical paragraph and explains how to integrate and analyze evidence in the context of an argumentative thesis.

French language modules:

" Gardez le fil "
This 50 minute module gives the students tools to master the coherence of a text through the good use of simple grammatical components (pronouns, nouns, circumlocutions, etc.).
" Présentation de travaux universitaires et usage des ressources bibliographiques "
In this 50 minute module, students learn why and how to carry out responsible research. The tools that they acquire will help them avoid the pitfalls that often lead to plagiarism.
