The Canadian Institute for Military and Veteran Health Research (CIMVHR) Forum

The Canadian Institute for Military and Veteran Health Research (CIMVHR) Forum that was held in Toronto this past 24-26 November was a success and allowed more than 150 researchers to share their papers and posters with a public composed of close to 600 participants. Founded by the Royal military College of Canada and Queen's University, CIMVHR now counts 35 Canadian universities amongst its partners and more than 1000 researchers. The institution's collaborative efforts were rewarded during this year's Forum with several funding announcements including a contribution of $5M from Health Canada, a matching $5M from the True Patriot Love Foundation, $500k industrial contribution from General Dynamics and a new research services contract with PWGSC for $11.25M, as well as Scholarships from Wounded Warriors Canada and the Legion. These research grants will allow to more than a thousand researchers across Canada to enhance the health and well-being of military members, veterans as well as their families; they will also offer some research contracts allowing the community of dedicated researchers to answer to immediate needs, as well as knowledge translation opportunities unprecedented in this research field, allowing Canadian researchers to be renowned on the National and International scene. Also, CIMVHR is launching, this coming February, its first issue of the "Journal of Military, Veteran and Family Health," a first Canadian Journal of this scope, published by the University of Toronto Press.
